Singapore is one of my favorite cities in the world. Other than the fact that it has the bestest airport, coolest attractions, and super organized transportation system, Singapore was my very first out of the country destination, that is why it holds a place in my heart.

Whether a quick layover or a proper holiday, I wouldn't mind visiting Singapore over and over.  However, it can be costly!

It was named as the world's most expensive city to live in for several years, and probably one of the priciest holiday destinations. Hence, spending a few days in Singapore has always been a challenge for budget travelers like me.

Things-To-Do When You're Stuck In Changi Airport

On our second lay-over in Singapore, Ed and I spent the night at Ambassador Transit Hotel just as planned. When I woke up the next day, I hoped the travel nightmare was merely just a nightmare. Then, reality came rushing and slapped me on the face! We're stuck in Changi Airport!! Ouch!  So, you think Ed and I would sulk at the corner, weeping and drying each other's tears? Nope, we're better than that! We came up with a Plan B! :) We grabbed some guide books and created an epic impromptu itinerary INSIDE Changi Airport!

Ambassador Transit Hotel and The 19-hour Travel Nightmare

After a month long vacation in the Philippines, Ed and I had another lay-over in Singapore on our way back to Dubai. If you remember, we successfully followed an epic 9-hour itinerary during our first stop over. We were up to another "Amazing Race: Ed and Lady Episode" on our second lay-over which was longer, 19 hours to be exact. We were scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 8pm and depart for Dubai at 3pm the next day! Another epic itinerary was prepared, directions and maps were printed, and our overnight stay was booked. 

We arrived a few minutes late at Terminal 3 instead of 2. Ed and I were on our fastest pace as we have to meet a friend at Terminal 1 who invited us to Clark Quay that night! Based on the itinerary I made, we were supposed to be out at 9 pm. It was already 10 when we got our passports stamped at the immigration. Anyhow, the meet-up was successful, the Clark Quay visit wasn't! Why? Because a month before our flight, before the meet-up was even planned, I scheduled a 12 midnight to 6 AM stay at Ambassador Transit Hotel. We MUST check in at 12 or else a no show will be charged. After our dinner at Terminal 1, Ed and I had no choice but to head straight to the transit hotel.

I had an itty-bitty problem while I was making our Singapore 9-hour lay over itinerary. Our first stop was at the Gardens by the Bay to view the sunrise, next was to have an aerial view of the city at Marina Bay Sands. But how can we do that if the MBS Skypark only opens at 9:30 AM? So, I searched for options and found an amazing restaurant at Marina Bay Sands with a 360 degrees panoramic view of the city.

9 Hours in Singapore

Singapore is the first country that I set foot in when got my first passport was back 2007. It was the year that I fell head over heels in love with travelling. Yes, it all started in Singapore and the rest is history! I had six country stamps, Philippines and UAE included, when my first passport expired. Six different stamps are quite a few for others, but it sure is an achievement for me! :) Looks like history repeats because Singapore is again the first arrival stamp I got on my new passport! Ed and I had a very short, but sweet lay-over in Singapore last March. I was so ecstatic when we got promotional fares with a 9 hour lay over though I have been there before. If I found Singapore amazing six years ago, back when there were no Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay and Universal Studios yet, how much more this year?
