#DubaiCanvas: 3D Art Festival at The Beach in JBR

I spent my weekend at The Beach in JBR, not for a swim but for a mind-bending experience. The pavement of the low-rise beachfront complex turned into an art canvas for the annual Dubai Canvas event. Focused on 3D pavement art this year, the week-long festival features the creations of world renowned street artists.

I'm not really an artsy chick, but optical illusions and 3D effects fascinate me. What seems to be a simple painting on the pavement is a stunning three-dimensional masterpiece when viewed from the right spot! Ed and I circled each artwork looking for the perfect angle, and got shivers when we finally found it!

As most 3D paintings create the illusion of falling from the heights, a little bit of drama is much needed. We went crazy over the artworks, to the point that Ed crawled on the floor just to get a good Mission Impossible pose on the Burj Khalifa 3D piece. Hahah!

Then, went back to reality after a wooden boat cruise. :)

Some artworks are still unfinished, thus giving us the opportunity to witness how a 3D pavement art is made. These people are born with awesome skills! My eyes popped as an artist transformed a plain canvas into sand dunes! If only that painting was ready, we would have flaunted some sand-boarding moves that we could never do in reality. :)

What an honor to see Mr. Kurt Wenner, the inventor of 3D pavement art illusion and 3D street painting!

Dubai Canvas is only until March 7, 2015. The amazing 3D pieces will then be displayed in various locations around Dubai. I wonder where will that "sand-boarding in the dunes" artwork go. If you'll see it somewhere after the event, please tell me! My sand-board pose is ready! ;)

Burj Khalifa LED Show in Photos and Video

I could say that I got the most comfortable spot without spending a fortune during the New Year's Eve Gala at Downtown Dubai. I was in Burj Park having the utmost relaxation in a picnic blanket with my family. Our spot was a vantage point for the dazzling fireworks display. However, there was a downside. We could only see half of the fascinating LED show. :(

The LED-illumination on Burj Khalifa's facade is a Guinness World Record holder. Too bad, I wasn't able to get a full view of it when Dubai's iconic structure clinched the award. But then, the morning after, I learned that there's nothing to be sorry about as the record-breaking display will continue until January 9, 2015

I guess you know what I did next. :)

Dubai Festival of Lights at The Centre of Now

Dubai has always been shiny, shimmery and splendid! Just when I thought I'm used to its extravagant surprises, the city of glitz and glamour made my jaw drop once again! Ed and I just witnessed the much-talked about Dubai Festival of Lights at The Centre of Now, Downtown Dubai

Dubai Festival of Lights is the newest vibrant celebration in the city that never fails to amaze the world. The spectacular event is organized by Emaar Properties, in partnership with the City of Lyon where one of the world's biggest festivals 'Fete des Lumieres' is being held. They have created a 10-day celebration of light, art and culture which made the bustling modern part of Dubai beaming in a whole new light.

Food, Fun and Entertainment at Dubai Food Carnival

A foodie festival has just begun! Last weekend, Dubai Food Carnival kicked off the 23-day Dubai Food Festival 2014 with a bang! The newest food, beverage and entertainment extravaganza was on the list of events I shouldn't miss this month, so I was over the moon when I received a media invitation. My blog's official photographer (aka my husband) and I were given passes that we could use any time during the 2-day event. Our initial plan was to spend three hours of our weekend at the carnival, but with so many things to do, so much more to see and so many food to try, Ed and I decided to stay a little longer... until our 3-hour carnival plan turned into an 8-hour foodie getaway!

1. Ryder Cup
This year’s Ryder Cup takes place from September 23rd to 28th at Gleneagles, Scotland. The White Winterland at BurJuman

I went window shopping at BurJuman Centre yesterday and was delightfully surprised to see a portion of the mall covered with snow! I heard the Ice Queen paid a visit, sprinkled some magic snow dust and turned BurJuman into a White Winterland

This Festive Season, the mall of high-end boutiques has a great treat for the shoppers (window shoppers, like me, included). There's a Snow Zone where the kids can make snow angels and have a snowball fight. BurJuman also placed a temporary ice rink where shoppers can enjoy free skating lessons and world-class entertainment. And to top it all, there's a live snow fall every hour!

Comical Night at The Punchline Comedy Club

Ed and I love to have our quality time somewhere nice and quiet. We usually spend weekend nights in a restaurant talking about anything and making each other laugh in between serious conversations. It has been our stress-reliever for years. It was just last Friday that we were in a very unexpected place, with a very unusual scenario.

We were invited to the final show of The Punchline Comedy Club's October Tour in the Middle East at the Emirates Golf Club. The Punchline Comedy Club started in Hong Kong in 1994, and a couple of years later conquered the rest of Asia and Australia. The show features outstanding comedians from UK, USA, Australia and Canada.

A Girly Morning with Virgin Megastore at Mercato

I was already running low on energy mid-September! The first two weeks were jam-packed with getaways on weekends and massive workload on weekdays. I badly needed some precious ME time and I was really thankful when an invitation from Virgin Megastore arrived in my Inbox. It was an invite for the Family Festival; a 4-day celebration in line with the opening of Virgin's newly renovated store in Mercato. I was jumping inside while reading these: fashion shows (wow!), live music performance (yay!), food demos (omg!) and free manicure (oh yes!).

The Mermaid Show at The Dubai Mall

When I was little, I was so fond of Disney movies and Disney Princesses. If you ask me what my favorite Disney movie is, I'd immediately answer 'The Little Mermaid'. I grew up wanting to be Ariel. I knew every line of the song 'Part Of Your World'. I used to act like I have a mermaid tail every time I was in a pool, whether it's a big resort pool or a small inflatable one, though I wasn't really a good swimmer! :)

I was and will always be fascinated with mermaids! That's why, I was excited when I learned that there's a free mermaid show at The Dubai Mall. The show is held at Dubai Aquarium, the holder of Guinness World Record's largest acrylic panel!

Belieber for a Night

Today, I'm taking a break from the travel series. Ed and I are back in Dubai for more than a month now, so this time I'll be sharing something fresh! Flashpack series will resume next week. :)

Believe it or not, I was at Justin Bieber's concert two weekends back! Yes, an adult turning 31 this year still at a teeny-bopper music event. Hahah! I'm not a huge fan, I actually hate his music during his "Baby" days. I learned to appreciate Justin Bieber when he got older as his music style evolved from annoying dance tunes to cool pop and R&B.
