Exotic Dining at Kinabuchs Grill and Bar in Palawan

On our last night in Puerto Princesa, my family and I had an exotic gastronomic experience. Though I love to eat, I have always been scared to dwell on the wild side. So, I felt it was about time to widen my culinary horizon! Heheh. I delightfully grabbed the opportunity to have the infamous bizarre cuisines of Palawan.

We went to Kinabuchs Grill and Bar, a restaurant in Puerto Princesa famous for serving exotic delicacies such crocodile meat and tamilok (woodworm). Kinabuchs is an open-air native restobar. It was booming with a lively ambiance when we arrived for dinner. I could tell that it is where people can dine and chill at the same time. There's a spot for casual dining under the stars, an area with huge flat screen tvs for sports fans and a native cottage with billiard tables and a bar.

KaLui: A Must-Try Native Restaurant in Palawan

A vacation in Puerto Princesa is never complete without dining in KaLui! This I have learned after a series of travel-related conversations with my friends and after reading several blog posts on Puerto Princesa. KaLui seems to be the most popular and the most recommended local restaurant in the province. I heard it is a native restaurant just like the others, but I was curious on what makes it different from the rest.

So, on our first day in Puerto Princesa, just as soon as we dropped our bags at Marianne Home Inn, I immediately asked the receptionist about KaLui. She gladly made a call and reserved a table for four at 6:30pm. Having an early dinner wasn't really our choice, but KaLui was fully booked at 7:30pm that night and 8:30pm would be so late for us.

Italian Lunch at Guiseppe's

I just realized that I've been blogging about pizza restaurants a lot. I even got a comment "Pizza, again?!" on my recent blog post. Hahah! :) I love pizza ever since, but the addiction got worse when I met Ed. He is a true blue fan of everything Italian! So, I think we've been "pizza restaurant hopping" for almost 6 years already, from the Philippines to United Arab Emirates! :)

During our 8-day flashpack trip, we have satisfied our authentic Italian pizza cravings at Giuseppe's in Tacloban. Guiseppe's is an Italian-Filipino restaurant, owned and managed by an Italian Chef. The restaurant's exterior looks very charming, it actually stands out from the rest of the establishments at the town's center.

Ocho Seafood and Grill: Seafood Haven in Tacloban

Seafood!!! Just typing the "seafood" word makes me drool. It deserves to have that three exclamation points after! I'm a picky eater but I wouldn't mind having the freshest fisherman's catch anytime or anywhere, whether it is simply home-cooked or a chef's specialty in a restaurant. On our recent trip, Ed arranged a family dinner at Ocho Seafood and Grill, Tacloban's finest seafood restaurant.

Pizza and Pasta at Afrique's

I have been to Ilo-Ilo several times; way back when I only have shopping malls and fast foods on my itinerary! :) I never realized the true essence of traveling when I was younger. On my recent trip, I vowed to do something different; heritage sites instead of malls, local restaurants instead of fast food chains.

As you all know, I failed on my sightseeing goal because of a very unfortunate event. I was so determined to succeed in the food aspect, but I made an exemption for lunch as I wanted to let my Mom have her favorite Kenny Roger's roasted chicken. I love to please my parents. Oh well, who doesn't? For dinner, I had the authentic La Paz batchoy in mind while my mom whispered 'Kenny Rogers' for the second time! Hahah! I felt so sorry, but I had to say "once is enough, Mama". :) I would probably have batchoy for dinner if I'm alone, but since I wasn't, I decided to have a "real" family dinner in one of the local restaurants.

My parents are cool, go-with-the-flow type of oldies. When I asked them if they want to have something Italian for dinner, they cheerfully agreed. Afrique's is a popular pizza and pasta place in Ilo-Ilo. It is one of the best, currently rank 11 in Tripadvisor's list of 73 dine-out spots in the city. A friend told me that I should never leave Ilo-Ilo without having a meal at Afrique's. I'm glad I took the advice this time.

Family Dinner at Bacolod Chicken House

Whenever I am away, I often think about my loving family, good friends and chicken inasal! Food has always been a part of my daydreams. Hahah! :) Chicken Inasal is a famous grilled chicken dish from Bacolod. This is not your ordinary chicken barbecue! A lot of restaurants in the country and even abroad have inasal on the menu, but nothing beats the original. Here in Bacolod, the chicken is marinated in a special secret sauce, then grilled to perfection!
