Who are the Lucky Juans?

It has been three months since Cebu Pacific launched 100 Lucky Juans, a fantastic contest for OFWs in the Middle East. There was an outpour of sentiments and creativity as 100 Dubai-Manila roundtrip tickets were up for grabs. But as they say, all good things must come to end, it is time to wrap up the 100 Lucky Juans competition.

The Cove Rotana: Refresh and Revitalize at Bodylines Spa

It's been more than a week since our perfect mini-vacation at The Cove Rotana in Ras Al Khaimah, yet I am still in a state of pure bliss! It was the sweetest and the most relaxing getaway we ever had in the UAE. I had a lot of wonderful experiences at The Cove; great memories that couldn't fit in a single blog entry! So, let me begin "The Cove Series" with exactly how the stress-free weekend started.   

Ever noticed how stress can totally knock you down? I can honestly say that I tend to neglect some of the great things whenever I feel strained. I am not really very hard to please, but I can be grumpy whenever I feel stressed out! I know, it's bad and it's not healthy! I am glad that our weekend getaway at The Cove started with a journey to a relaxed body and mind.

My Favorite "Juans"

I was browsing the entries for Cebu Pacific's 100 Lucky Juans contest in Facebook a while ago, and I must say that all participants really did an awesome job! I adored the creative artworks and even shed some tears while reading the touching stories of my fellow OFWs in United Arab Emirates! I have read about longing for home and sacrifices of being away. I actually saw a piece of me in most entries. Kudos to all participants!

The Dubai Fountain

There are a lot of musical fountains in the UAE, yet the Dubai Fountain at Burj Lake in Downtown Dubai remains to be the most astonishing of them all. California-based WET, the creators of the Bellagio fountain in Las Vegas, designed the Dubai Fountain. It is the world's largest dancing fountain with a length of 900 ft and has nozzles capable to shoot water sprays up to 500 ft high

When my husband and I were newbies in Dubai, we wanted to go to Dubai Mall every weekend just to watch the fountain show. It somehow eased the homesickness and helped us chase the blues away. Worries were forgotten as the water started to dance in graceful and whimsical ways. We have watched the show in every angle; from Dubai Mall, from Souk Al Bahar, from Burj Park, from Burj Khalifa and we even had an aerial view from a restaurant's terrace.

Superman-Wannabe at iFLY Dubai

I am not the storyteller for today because I have a guest who wants to share an awesome experience! :) He is a dare devil, a big fan of everything extreme. I think most of us have dreamed of being able to fly, to be like Superman, soaring from one place to another. In iFLY Dubai, I was able to be like Superman, minus the cape! iFLY Dubai at Mirdif City Centre is an indoor Skydiving simulator which allows a person to fly inside a tunnel, a first of its kind in the UAE. As they say, it is a preparation to Skydiving (which I’m planning to cross out on my bucket list someday)!

The Astounding Water, Fire and Light Show at Dubai Mall

I was torn between two spectacular events last weekend: the fireworks display at the Festival Promenade and the much talked about water, fire and light show at Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai. I'm a big fan of fireworks, but I was greatly interested about the show at Downtown. So, after weighing the pros (no cons in these amazing events), I went to see The Water, Fire and Light Show which was first shown during the New Year's Eve countdown. It has been a talk of the town since then. 

Ed and I went to the musical fountain area of Dubai Mall. The show starts at 8:00 PM, but it was already too crowded at 7:30 PM. We went to Souk Al Bahar and found a better spot; in fact, I consider it as the best spot as we were exactly in front of the water platform with a semi-transparent screen. The show uses water, fire and light very artistically. The mixture of elements along with the cultural theme and the theatrical performance create an astounding show. Festival Parade at Al Seef

I always look forward to the month-long Dubai Shopping Festival, not just for cheap, sale items but for the celebration at Al Seef Street along Dubai Creek. At 8:00 pm, every weekend, people gather in the sidewalk of Al Seef to witness a grand festival parade. It's my 4th year in Dubai and I have noticed how the parade gets more colorful and magnificent each year.
